Coming off its least-watched month in primetime in 20 years in May, CNN has taken another big ratings blow: The cable news network has registered to its lowest-rated quarter in primetime since 1991. For this year’s second quarter, CNN hit a low among total viewers and the key adults 25-54 demographic, with all primetime programs posting steep declines. The network averaged 446,000 total viewers and 129,000 in the 25-54 demo in primetime. Compared to last year’s second quarter, that’s down 35% and 41%, respectively. Rival Fox New Channel, meanwhile, with 1.79 million primetime total viewers on average, was down 1% from its 2011 second-quarter numbers. FNC lost 14% in the 25-54, bringing in 355,000 viewers. MSNBC was down 13% in total primetime viewers, with 689,000 on average, and down 17% in the 25-54 with 217,000. The quarter ran March 26-June 22.
Individually, CNN shows hemorrhaged viewers heavily compared with last year. Wolf Blitzer’s The Situation Room, which airs from 4-6 PM ET, was down 42% in 25-54 and 26% in total viewers. His show is expanding to three hours beginning Friday, taking over CNN’s recently cancelled John King U.S.A.At 7 PM, Erin Burnett OutFront, which debuted in October replacing a then-moving John King U.S.A., was down 45% in 25-54 from last year’s second quarter and down 33% in total viewers. Piers Morgan Tonight, which replaced Larry King Live in January 2011, was down 33% in the 25-54 and 29% in total viewers. Pulling double duty, Anderson Cooper took a double hit: Anderson Cooper 360 at 8 PM was down 23% in the 25-54 and 19% in total viewers, and its 10 PM airingwas down 48% in the demo and 44% in viewers. The top-rated cable news shows for the second quarter were all FNC shows, with The O’Reilly Factor and Hannity sitting at No. 1 and No. 2.

Yeah but what else is there? Love or hate CNN, one thing you can't dismiss. If a big news story breaks out they will be the network that gets to it the fastest and has the most comprehensive coverage. A hurricane, a bombing, a wildfire, or a Supreme Court decision. Who else can you turn to in the US for breaking news?

I watched a little of it years ago as a young guy.
I didnt like back then, as I found it to be to edited, to one sided.

[ Funny how stories like this get buried by the biased liberal media ]

Think CNN Will Get Around to Covering That Dem Lawmaker Who Had Sex With a 17-Year-Old Boy at a Rest Stop?

Minnesota Democratic State Rep. Kerry Gauthier has had a rough go of it lately. Embroiled in a sex scandal that has attracted the attention of national media outlets, Gauthier has gone from waging a promising reelection bid for his seat, to being caught engaged in oral sex acts at a rest stop with a teenage boy, to pulling out of the race and facing possible expulsion from the Minnesota legislature.
Gauthier does have one place in which he can reliably look for cover on this story however – CNN.
ABC has the latest:
Disgraced Minnesota Democratic State Rep. Kerry Gauthier decided late Wednesday night that he will not seek reelection after he was caught having sexual contact with a 17-year-old. But that hasn’t appeased some at the Minnesota State House — they want to expel Gauthier from the legislature now.
The move to expel Gauthier, so that he cannot serve out the rest of his term, will be started tomorrow, sources tell ABC News.
Last week it was revealed that Rep. Gauthier had engaged in oral sex with a 17-year-old boy at a rest stop in Duluth in July. He has since apologized for the incident, but the political outcry in Minnesota has been swift and strong, some accusing him of being a “child-molester.”
Seems newsworthy, but not so for the so-called worldwide leader in news.
To be fair, CNN has been incredibly busy covering the controversial remarks of Rep. Todd Akin - to the tune of 117 entries on the website as of this post.
Execute the same kind of search for Kerry Gauthier on the site, and you’ll find a lone hit from 2007 that has absolutely nothing to do with the Minnesota lawmaker.
The question has to be asked – What is the more newsworthy event here, the asinine comments of Akin speaking about “legitimate rape”, or the fact that a lawmaker engaged in a sex act with a boy nearly four decades his junior; an act that would have been considered legitimate statutory rape in about 12 other states?
We’re guessing CNN’s defense would be that Gauthier is not a national politician, in contrast to Akin. And yet every other major network has covered the story in some manner, including Fox News, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, the Huffington Post, etc.
So why has CNN avoided the scandal and instead had a laser-like focus on the Akin story? Is it nothing more than the placement of a ‘D’ in front of Gauthier’s name that has the network burying the story?

watched CNN for 12 seconds the other day, heard their host say "the Republicans have to stop acting like voter ID laws are about preventing voter fraud"

changed the channel right there, didn't let him finish his sentence

I think I lied about the 12 seconds, think it may have been about 4 or 5

Where ya been Willie? We've got a whole thread devoted to voter ID. Apparently a few of our posters are CNN hosts.

and although I paid $ 50 for a week of Wi-Fi access (the Wi-Fi sucked too), I didn't really have much time or desire for it

loved it so much that we bought a 2 bedroom timeshare at the Divi Phoenix (every other year)

we plan on going there with 6 to 8 people every other year. Since all commercial construction has been banned, there will be no new beachfront properties built

the weather is amazing, never rains and the island is south of the hurricane zone. It's not a risk even during peak hurricane season. 90 degrees and sunny every day, with a non-stop ocean breeze to keep you cool

the natives all speak 4 languages, and you can use USD everywhere you go. Establishments that don't use USD still give you the proper exchange rate if you do (about 1.75 to 1)

restaurants are amazing, so is site seeing. Obviously have every water activity there is to have and they have several small casinos.

stay in the high rise, you can walk to almost everything you need

the one problem, dinner entrees will average $ 25 to $ 35, so it can get costly to eat. We had a full kitchen, so we had all our breakfasts and most of our lunches in the room

all inclusives are $ 100+ per day per person, but I wouldn't advise that. If you stay at a beach front property, which most are, just bring or buy your own bottles and snacks & enjoy their great choice of restaurants

PS: the island is very safe, you can venture almost anywhere

airfare is not cheap as you're literally flying to South America

last minute from JFK cost us $ 750 per person on Jet Blue (4.5 hrs non-stop)

if you plan ahead, and / or you fly mid-week, you can pay $ 450 to $ 550 from NYC (non-stop Jet Blue)

I think most of the time shares can be rented for a week just like a hotel. I would suggest any nice hotel in the high rise district that has a full kitchen. It's best to be on the beach, and at a resort where you can go to your room for lunch, snacks and drinks. Will save you a lot of money.

Don't do mandatory all inclusive, which eliminates the Occidental and the RIU Palace

Divi Aruba Phoenix fits my perfect resort description to the "T", although make sure you're in the new buildings to maximize your pleasure. Other hotels along the high rise beach, but I don't know anything about their rooms, are the Hyatt, the Radisson and the Westin

Yeah Willie, gotta take the Betty on a nice trip for our 10 year anniversary. We have ruled out Hawaii and have already been to just about every island in the Carribean.

Aruba might be the call. I am supposed to make this shit a surprise type thing. Why you say not to do the all inclusive? We usually do it when we go on vacation. We don't always utilize it, but it is very convenient for a quick breakfast or lunch....and of course the free booze.

How are the beaches?
